Welcome back to another list of free and great resources for webmasters. We are always fixing, updating or adding code in our websites from time to time to stay updated. We also create our own plugins and all this works get so much better with some good editors with syntax highlighting and maybe a WYSIWYG option to make sure everything looks ok. I will introduce you to 15 free/open source editors with syntax highlighting and/or WYSIWYG options here.

Notepad ++ – An open source web editor with a great interface, syntax highligting, WYSIWYG, Auto-Completion, Brace and Indent guideline highlighting and alot more.

PSPad – This one is my favorite and is freeware for Windows systems. With syntax higlighting, full hex editor, FTP client and spell checker. It does not have a WYSIWYG option.

Arachnophilia – Is a freeware Java program

Bluefish – Another good and free editor. Supports many languages with syntax highligting and WYSIWYG option

Amaya – Editor with syntax higlighting and WYSIWYG

HTML-Kit Tools – is a full-featured free editor for HTML, XHTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and other text files. With lots of plugins available.

KompoZer – Another great editor with syntax highligting and WYSIWYG. Recommended for beginners as its very easy to use. With FTP manager, CSS editor, cleaner markup and spell checker and much more …

Nvu -Web editor based on the Mozilla platform. Available for Linux, Windows, Mac OS X and FreeBSD. With FTP manager, CSS editor, spellchecker, cleaner markup and more..

jEdit – Editor written in Java, so it runs on Mac OS X, OS/2, Unix, VMS and Windows. With syntax highlighting for more than 130 file types.

Matrix Y2K – Free editor with syntax highligting, multi lingual, html tidy, document manager and more

HAPedit – HAP is an acronym for Html Asp Php editor. With syntax highlighting for html/php, html/asp, html, JavaScript, CSS and SQL; page preview in browser; project manager; php code “compilation”; edit html tags; code completion; preview images; SQL console; FTP Manager; Code Explorer and more.

Trellian – With syntax highlighting and WYSIWYG

Namu6 – Freeware editor. Easy to use with WYSIWYG option.
